The Jungle Book Project

This ‘Babylonian’ version of the Walt Disney film The Jungle Book (1967) is a compilation of various dubbed versions. Every character speaks a different language: Mowgli speaks Spanish, the panther Bagheera Arabic, the tiger Shere Khan English, and the bear Baloo Hebrew. The fact that the protagonists appear to understand each other despite the Babylonian muddle of languages can be interpreted as a reference to the utopian potentialities of global communication. Bismuth furthermore achieves a black humoristic characterisation of the different ‘national characters’.
