I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For“ verwendete. I’m gonna sue your ass!“

In 1991 the California-based band Negativland released the single U2, with samples included stemming from the U2 song ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’. This release caused the band to be saddled with a lawsuit by the label Island Records. Negativland characterised the use of the samples as ‘fair use’, yet they were still forced to recall and destroy the entire edition. In the angry voice of a copyright lawyer, Disney’s Little Mermaid wails ‘You can’t use it without my permission … I’m gonna sue your ass!’ to Black Flag’s song ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ in the video Gimme the Mermaid.
